About Med-Alert

Med-Alert is Sri Lanka’s first mobile application developed specifically for Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting and management. More than a tool for data collection, Med-Alert serves as a secure, centralized ADR database, enabling healthcare professionals to report, retrieve, and monitor drug-related events efficiently.

It supports long-term patient safety by allowing health providers to access past ADR records using NIC or patient name, providing a reliable system for continuity of care and pharmacovigilance.

  • Why Med-Alert?

Traditional paper-based ADR reporting in Sri Lanka has long been limited by under-reporting, data fragmentation, and lack of accessibility. Med-Alert overcomes these challenges by:

Allowing real-time digital reporting at the bedside
Storing patient ADR histories securely and permanently
Supporting data retrieval for analysis, audit, and regulatory action

OUR RESEARCHERS

Med-Alert was conceptualized, designed, and developed under the direct leadership of Dr. M.T Madhushika as part of her PhD project. Her work focused on improving pharmacovigilance in resource-limited settings and was funded by the Faculty Research Grant (FoM/RG2021/01), Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanaka.
